“Chicken-hearted, craven, faceless cowards.” (I think she’s talking about me.)

May 1, 2009 at 8:44 pm (Bloggers, Media) (, , , , , )

I should really be blogging about swine flu, the conspiracy theories, the daft claims to have remedies for the snoutbreak (Elderberry and vitamin C? Homeopathic mp3 files? I can hardly believe I can read advice like this), or perhaps the silly puns involved (aporkalypse, the remedies produced by Pig Pharma, parmageddon etc…) but this article by Carol Midgley caught my eye (via the HolfordWatch miniblog) so I’m writing about anonymous bloggers instead. What kind of person blogs? Part two

August 21, 2008 at 8:26 pm (Bloggers) (, )

Well, I’ve had a quick look at the Guadagno paper and I’ve done the Big Five personality test. Disappointingly, I came out as being incredibly neurotic and not very conscientious. More pleasingly, I did confirm my prejudice that I am very dutiful – I’d have made a good Quaker!

The paper has some interesting results, albeit few that are statistically significant. Read the rest of this entry »

January 11, 2008 at 1:25 pm (Atheism, Blasphemy, Bloggers, Campaigns, government, Religion) (, , , , , )

There was an interesting editorial piece in the print edition of The Guardian yesterday on the UK blasphemy laws. Online today, the Guardian has a CiF piece titled “Is Nothing Sacred?”. Read the rest of this entry »

January 9, 2008 at 5:03 pm (Alternative Medicine, Bloggers, Code of Ethics, Homeopathic Remedies, Homeopathy, Media, Remedies, Society of Homeopaths, SoH) (, , , , , , , , )

Just a very brief post pointing out what I think is the funniest part of the Society of Homeopaths’ press statement / response to Polly Toynbee’s rather wonderful CiF piece. Read the rest of this entry »

Patrick Holford’s Newsround

January 7, 2008 at 1:34 pm (Alternative Medicine, Bad Science, Bloggers, Media, Patrick Holford, Supplements) (, , , , )

I’ve seen a few websites set up to tackle individuals before – like, say, Sylvia Browne. I don’t think I can recall, however, seeing two websites set up for the same individual. Read the rest of this entry »

In the wake of Ben Goldacre’s excellent recent articles on homeopathy in The Lancet and The Guardian (reproduced in The Daily Mail), several blogs have been started with the intention of defending the indefensible – homeopathy.

Water, Water Everywhere…

November 5, 2007 at 3:54 pm (Bad Science, Bloggers, Code of Ethics, Homeopathic Remedies, Homeopathy, NASH, Remedies, Society of Homeopaths, SoH) (, , , , , , , , , )

Nor any drop to drink. With apologies to Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Sounds like a load of old cock? It is – but so is homeopathy and still we have ‘water, water everywhere’. The latest example I’ve spotted is… Read the rest of this entry »
